COVID-19 Impact Survey Report Now Available
At the beginning of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency, the ABC Board of Directors recognized the potential for a significant impact on all ABC credential holders. In order to get a clear picture of the impact the emergency has had on ABC stakeholders, ABC staff was tasked with creating a survey to gauge the consequences.
The survey focused on identifying impacts on employment, patient volume and practice revenue. It was sent to a diverse group of practitioners, in varied practice settings across the U.S., in order to be representative of the impact on the O&P profession nationwide.

As I sit here in my office and reflect on 2019, I can’t help but wonder where the time has gone. It seems that only yesterday, I was beginning my discussions with the Board of Directors on the planning of the Annual Symposium and making plans for all the tasks we wanted to tackle in the new year.
Well, the symposium is over, our goals and objectives for 2019 have all been tackled, and now we are well into the planning for 2020. We have increased our membership and our social media presence, increased our symposium revenues and attendance numbers, and improved our member benefits’ programs. All in all, a great year for the PFA! We could not have done any of this without you, our members. You are the ones that helped us achieve these goals and improve the organization.
As we (have) closed out 2019, here is a big Thank You from all of us at PFA’s headquarters and the Board of Directors! We are excited for what 2020 is going to produce next for PFA and our members. In closing, from all of us at the PFA, we wish you the happiest of holidays this season. We look forward to continued growth and prosperity for our members and as an organization in the New Year.
I hope you have a Happy Holiday Season and a Wonderful Start to 2020!
Sincerely,
Matthew D. Almeida
PFA President

Pedorthic Footcare Association (PFA) Celebrates Its 60th Anniversary
PFA’s Council on Pedorthic Education (COPE) hold its Diamond Anniversary Annual Symposium and Exhibition
Henderson, NV – November 12, 2019 -- The Pedorthic Footcare Association (PFA), the only not-for-profit professional association which represents the interests of pedorthic professionals and supports the Pedorthic profession at large, celebrated its 60th Anniversary at its Annual Symposium and Exhibition at the M Hotel last week. With over 300 attendees and vendor partners in attendance, the PFA stated that this was its largest educational and networking event for the Footcare industry.
The PFA’s Symposium and Exhibition is a unique and outstanding educational experience, not only because of the strong quality of programming and speakers, but also because of the intimate, collegial atmosphere that the organization wishes to promote. The Symposium offers opportunities to meet new members, renew old friendships, and connect with some of the pioneers in pedorthics, as well as speak with some of the most prominent names in the various allied healthcare professions. State of the art products and services are also featured on the Exhibit Floor.
“The 2019 Symposium and Exhibition was a great success! With over 300 attendees and vendors in attendance, it was a fantastic learning and networking opportunity!” said Matthew Almeida, President of the PFA. “We are knee deep in planning our 61st Annual Symposium next year in Tampa Bay, and are excited to continue to grow the Pedorthics profession for our members and provide them with what they need to be successful professionals.”
“I want to say thank you to the PFA for helping us get my manager to the symposium, she was able to glean quite a bit.”, says Jeff Rice, PFA Member. “Thanks for all you do to keep the PFA going and I wonder if you all get the thanks you deserve. I am refreshed again from the event with a renewed vision of why I got into this field.”
Also present at the Symposium were “PFA Legends and the Fathers of Pedorthics”: Robert Schwartz, President, CEO and C.Ped., of Eneslow Pedorthic Enterprises and Verne Bintz, Founder and CEO of Verne Bintz Co. PFA will be hosting its 61st Annual Symposium and Exhibition in Tampa, Florida, November 12-14th. More information can be found at pedorthics.org.

In celebration of our legends, it would be remiss not to mention how having contact with a couple of my personal mentors, namely, Dennis Janisse and Hope Julal for their technical, business and professional advice. Their advice and council have been very helpful to me being a young entrepreneur.
It is very important in our profession to utilize the bank of knowledge right at our fingertips, re-inventing the wheel is not always the best option and may be counterproductive.
One such case is a patient with a severe acquired foot deformity, who had tried several different modalities and was sent to us as a last resort. After consultation with the physician and patient, in my mind I had an idea of how I needed to proceed...
