In celebration of our legends, it would be remiss not to mention how having contact with a couple of my personal mentors, namely, Dennis Janisse and Hope Julal for their technical, business and professional advice. Their advice and council have been very helpful to me being a young entrepreneur.

It is very important in our profession to utilize the bank of knowledge right at our fingertips, re-inventing the wheel is not always the best option and may be counterproductive.

One such case is a patient with a severe acquired foot deformity, who had tried several different modalities and was sent to us as a last resort. After consultation with the physician and patient, in my mind I had an idea of how I needed to proceed...

1) Why join the PFA as a member?

I wanted to belong to an organization that supported me and the profession. I was tired of hearing, “What’s that?” after I told them I am a Certified Pedorthist. PFA had a lobbyist at the time to bring awareness around the profession and that mattered to me. They also had the most credits for the least amount of money so it made “cents”.

2) Why are you on PFA's Board of Directors?

Being of service is something I am naturally drawn to. It is my way to give back to an organization that continues to pave the way for Pedorthists.

3) Why should a pedorthic professional attend PFA’s 60th annual symposium?

This organization is still here because the community of members have made it happen and said so. The network opportunities, the comradery, CEUS and the privilege it is to see an organization still thriving 60 years later are amazing. It's definitely an accomplishment by every past, present and future member worth celebrating.
