A friend lost toes in a mower accident. What are your footwear suggestions? 0 K. Gramza A friend lost toes in a mower accident. What are your footwear suggestions? Ready made and/or custom. Does he have to come into the store? Are there shoes that are not custom made for partial toe loss? Custom would probably be too expensive or is it at all covered by insurance given the accident? He needs a better solution than Merrells’.

Custom made shoes for lymphedema in the feet 0 K. Gramza My two year old two-year-old daughter has lymphedema in her feet, causing them to be swollen. Do you have ready-made shoes, or can you make custom shoes to fit her (dress, casual and sneakers)?

Determining the Highest Point of the Arch (HPA) 0 K. Gramza I would like some to hear comments regarding where the highest point of the arch (HPA) exists relative to the heel and forefoot. I take it that it would be where the navicular tuberosity lies, but this may not be the case; does anyone know this? Now I realize that there is an infinite variation of the actual height of the arch at HPA, but where is this? If you were to draw a line from the medial 1st met head to the medial heel on a footprint (say a Harris mat), where (approximately) would be the HPA? I have had no success in finding biomechanical literature on this subject. Is there some formula one might adapt from autopsy findings?     Submitted by: Jim Fisher, DPM, Eureka, CA

Currently I am a Canadian Certified Pedorthist and I am wondering... 1 K. Gramza That's a question for the ABC or the BOC. I believeit should be fine as the requirements for being a Canadian C.Ped are more involved. Also I believe if you are working in a non-licensure state in the US you will be fine.

Footwear modalities to make this patient ambulatory! 1 K. Gramza This X-ray demonstrates a bunion with a second longer toe and the lesser toes are claw toes and they have midfoot and ankle arthritis. I would recommend an accommodative orthotic with metatarsal support, possible toe crest if tolerable, EVA, cork.A rocker sole with a deep wide toe box with soft leather or fabric. A chukka style boot would provide more ankle stability. Of course many more questions need to be asked about medical history, and lifestyle.- Teresa Alpert, CO, C.Ped, PMAC

Painful feet in all my shoes... 1 K. Gramza The blister indicates that the shoe you are wearing is rubbing. If in fact the shoe in the picture is what you are wearing it does not appear to have any medial arch support and may be to short for you. Go to a sit and fit shoe store and get measured and fit for properly fitted footwear.- Teresa Alpert, CO, C.Ped, PMAC
